Taylor Louise Barnam (Call her anything but "Tay" and she'll turn your lungs into SLIPPERS) is the daughter of a human woman named Alyssa Sutton and a slutty Archangel from the Barnam family, based in Boston. She was raised as an Archangel, though she wasn't sure she'd get her wings, and believed in killing all demons on sight.

Then she went to Chicago, turned 16, got her wings. Guardian Angel is not a normal Barnam calling, but Tay's not really a normal Barnam anymore. Her ward was Chicago's own Neqa'el, Elashte. She survived the battle of the Gauche, where she surprisingly did no fighting and actually tried to convince the army of Archangels that Romana Angelos had brought that they should go back home. It didn't work. Romana Fell and died.

She survived the CLF and Randall Flagg, and the Plagues (though some of her friends were not so lucky). She survived the killer carnival when it came through, and even managed to survive her father showing up to drag her back home. Well, she'd managed to survive the first assault, as it were. And then she found herself in a thoroughly unexpected situation.

Fallen through the rift, into a Chicago almost exactly (but not quite) like her own. Oh, and a year in the future. Oh, and with the bond between her and her ward completely severed. Can't forget that part. And somehow she's managed to not completely lose it.

She'll make it through okay, in the end, most likely. She hopes.
